Peace!
My name is Cinnamon and I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. I grew up as the middle child between two brothers and at the age of 13 I witnessed my younger brothers home water birth. That was the catalyst for my future endeavors in the birth world. After chasing dreams of traveling the world while figuring out my passions, spirit kept leading me back to birth work. I finally listened and began doula work at the age of 18 where I supported many family dynamics. I heavily worked through the “Joy in Birthing Foundation” which supported women in shelters and foster care. On this journey, I learned that not only was it passion that ignited my interest in women’s health but also stemmed from a long ancestral lineage of womb healing that ultimately began with me! I made it my mission to create avenues for families in search of a team dedicated to increasing better birth outcomes. This required me to be thorough in cultural competency, have a more holistic perspective and ever growing medical skills for the best optimal family experience. When beginning birth work I grew to understand the severity of the health care industry for birthing people( especially of color). With that in mind, through experience, I learned and witnessed the many possibilities of birth. I began to envision creating a future of community supported , consenting, trauma free, physiologic birth support.
After a few years of doula work I took the leap to gain my midwifery licensure through the state of California. I applied to Nizhoni Institute of Midwifery in San Diego California. This is where I was accepted in 2018 and later apprenticed with various home birth midwives all over LA county while still offering doula support, placenta encapsulation and yoni steaming. I was exposed to a plethora of birth outcomes and settings throughout the years such as; Homebirth, birth center and hospital birth, water births, VBAC, HBAC, surprise breech, shoulder dystocia, hemorrhage, and poly-hydramnios to name a few… I attended over 60 births (not including doula births) during my schooling that set the tone for my skills, knowledge, experience and perspective as a midwife. I’ve worked with many modalities such as plant medicine, homeopathy, TCM and western medicine when indicated. I also gained skills in spinning babies, breech without borders, CPR, NRP, belly/womb massage, herbal yoni steaming, childbirth education and placenta encapsulation.
After graduating in December of 2021 I assisted local midwives to attune my skills during hiatus. Soon after, I was blessed with a baby boy, my first child, Zen. I experienced my very own life changing homebirth that aided in my perspective of birth all together. This experience gave me the confidence to move forward with my practice in a whole new light. Most of all, Zen’s birth influenced my empathy and vigor for rewriting the fear based culture surrounding birth. Now, as a mother and birth practitioner; I am in full gratitude for all the families that allow me to support and bare witness to the immense ways we hold power as womb carriers.

My birth philosophy lies with the belief that conception, pregnancy, and birth are normal physiological processes of the female body that are best left to their own natural processes whenever possible.
In modern America, birth is treated as a pathology and has become a medical and surgical event, even when the woman’s risk may be low. This medicalization of care of the birth processes has pushed and regulated the practice of midwifery through licensing, laws, regulations, into accepted “medical standards of care” often restricting women’s choices and midwifery practices. However, I still believe and support the client’s inherent right to choose.
Every mother has the right to heal the wombs and inner workings of their predecessors and/or previous birth experiences how they see fit. I strongly acknowledge the ancestors, granny midwives and parteras that guide us through this cultural and systemic uprising through the birth of our children and re-birth of ourselves as parents. My goal resides with creating safe supportive spaces for POC, LGBTQ+communities and all gender identities. I find it important to our communities in lowering the statistics present with black maternal and infant mortality rates through awareness, community support, and accessibility. My role as a midwife is to use my experience and expertise to educate, inform, counsel, advise, observe, assess, manage, and treat accordingly with all the knowledge, intuition and clinical skills necessary for an optimal outcome regardless of place or type of delivery. I also believe that it is important that the pregnant woman takes the responsibility to educate herself, communicate openly, ask questions, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and participate fully in the care choices of her and her baby.
